Yount. The young command had a single mission- flying training. On 15 March 1942, the organization became the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command. A little over a year later, on 31 July 1943, that mission expanded to include military and technical training when the Army Air Forces Technical Training Command merged with the Army Air Forces Flying Training Command, and the War Department redesignated the organization as the Army Air Forces Training Command (AAFTC). The merger created an organization with over one million people assigned at over 600 training installations, including 375 devoted to flying training. THIS DOCUMENT IS FURNISHED ON CDROM FORMAT
